This Habibi Grooves (AKA Abilaan) remix of Max Telaer’s ‘Da Rhythm’ builds on the sound of the original Old School-influenced house tune. Crisp percussion is built up throughout, with improvised electric piano lines giving the piece its melody, and bursts of acidic bass piercing the texture. This remix uses samples to draw out the content of the original into an exciting new package full of deep grooves and passion. It takes pride of place on the Rough records’ latest EP Da Rhythm, alongside ‘Underground’ and the original version of this piece. -Dan Peeke
